How Sedation Dentistry Works
Sedation dentistry puts patients who suffer from dental anxiety into a relaxed state prior to and during dental procedures. Depending on your level of anxiety and person preference, we may subscribe oral sedation, nitrous oxide, or intra venous sedation. If subscribed oral sedatives, the medication should be taken the before the procedure. If you prefer Nitrous oxide, you’ll be given a mask that allows you breathe in the sedative agent. Also referred to as laughing gas, this form of sedation is one of the most commonly used methods of sedation. The last type of sedation dentistry is intra venous. Although intra venous produces similar effect to oral sedation, it requires more monitoring of the patient and dosage. During IV sedation, the patient’s reflexes and awareness are still intact.
